The mackerel may be found in all tropical and temperate seas. Highly prized for their meat the importation of mackerel to the Philippines has proved to be of great help during the lean months of local catching when the seas are rough and the weather cold. This usually begins in September and ends in February. There are many companies in the Philippines that process this fish into canned products readily available and sold all over for the local market.
