Octopus

The Octopus is a creature often feared and misunderstood, perhaps partly due to stories dating back far back as the 17th century and 650 BC. In Greek Mythology Ulysses fought a monster named Skylla who fit the description of a Giant Octopus. Another name, “Kraken” was popularized by Hollywood whilst in the literary field, 20,000 leagues under the sea written by Jules Vernes depicted a monster with 8 long arms attacking the Nautilus.

Majority of the Octopus caught in The Philippines are from Zamboanga and Palawan. A common food in some countries like Japan and Hawaii where it is a popular cooking ingredient. For those not familiar on how to cook this cephalopod, it remains an intriguing delicacy.
